Where is Radhanagar Beach?

The Radhanagar Beach lies on the western coast of Havelock Island/Swaraj Dweep. Also called Beach Number 7, it is situated away from the city center. Hence, it is known for its tranquil and peaceful environment. The beach is a popular destination for those seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Why is Radhanagar Beach famous?

  • Scenic Beauty – The most striking feature of this beach is the scenic beauty. The pristine white sand dotting the turquoise blue sea and the crystal clear waters that reflect the hues of the open and clear skies. All this creates an aura, a landscape so beautiful as if it is torn out of some wonderful dream.
  • Beautiful Beach – The beach is known for its long stretch of soft, powdery white sand. The sand is fine and feels pleasant to walk on, making it an ideal place for relaxation and strolls. The waters of Radhanagar Beach are clear and inviting, making it a great spot for swimming and frolicking.

How to Reach Radhanagar Beach?

This beach is located on Beach Number 7 on Havelock Island. This location is a bit difficult to access when compared to other beaches on Swaraj Dweep but the below options are available:

Cab/Auto Rickshaw – Cabs and Autos are available from the hotels and the Havelock Jetty. If you are staying at any properties near Radhanagar beach then the beach will be accessible by walk.

Buses Operated by the Government – State-run buses are available at regular intervals from Havelock Jetty, Beach Number 5, and Beach Number 3. The buses can be availed to reach Havelock Island, for very affordable rates.

Bi-Cycles –  Bicycles are available for rent at Havelock Island. Many travelers prefer such a mode of transport since it is environment friendly and reduces dependency on anyone. However, ensure you know how to cycle to avoid any accidents and the safety of you and the people around you.

The above options are ofcourse assuming you are already at Havelock Island. If you are looking to reach from Port Blair then the only option is cruise.

What to expect when visiting Radhanagar Beach

This beach is famous for its scenic landscape. At the entry point of the beach, there are some small local shops and shacks selling different food items like local fruits, coral jewelry, cold drinks, etc. A shopping area called Sagarika, a Government shopping emporium is also present fairly close to the beach for the tourists.

Watersports are not allowed on this beach. That is done on the Elephant beach of Havelock Island. On this beach, you can enjoy yourself swimming and frolicking around in the water. But please ensure you do not litter the area. The Andaman Islands have strict regulations regarding the cleanliness of the environment. 

On this beach, there are amenities such as eco-changing rooms and washroom facilities. And unlike most tourist destinations these are well maintained. Washrooms charge Rs. 5 for use. The white beach also boasts of a lush green surrounding comprising mainly of coconut trees. The huge trees have curves that make a nice space to sit on. Eco-friendly furniture made out of logs of old fallen trees, bamboo sit-outs, and tables are set up on the shore. There are hammocks and swings for kids on the beach as well. So, there are all the amenities for a relaxing experience.

Owing to the calm and peaceful atmosphere, Radhanagar Beach also happens to be a favorite Honeymoon destination for many. Also, the scenic landscape makes photography a very good option here, especially so during sunrise or sunset.

The beach typically gets crowded from around 11 pm till sunset, so if you want to avoid the rush, target to come early and enjoy the view. There is an eco watchtower on the beach which is not very high but you catch a glimpse of the surrounding panoramic views while climbing the tower.

The Bay of Bengal is known for rough waves, so be prepared for a rough sea when you swim. The Government has ensured that there are lifeguards in the vicinity for the safety of tourists, but it is best you ensure your safety as well.

Things to Do in Radhanagar Havelock Island

The Radhanagar area of Havelock Island is known for the gastronomical delights it has to offer to its tourists. Some of the amazing food options available here are local seafood cuisine in nearby restaurants. You can try the fruit salads from the beach shacks here, or the chaats and bhels. But the must-try item in all of Andaman Islands is the coconut water here. The tender coconuts here are filled with large quantities of sweet nectar-like water.
